Holiday season is quickly coming. Two to three months from today, we will find ourselves caught up attending back to back parties, reunions and holiday gatherings.
Little that we figure, our waistlines have gone crazy in expanding and we don’t have a choice but to spend half of our entire year burning those fats that we earned because we are so carefree. Do you ever find this cycle too tiring? I do.
Humans are born with oral fixation. We find peace if we put something inside our mouth – whether it’s a food, chewing gum, or a cracker. We even subconsciously bite our nails or the tip of our pens if we are on a very uneasy situation.
Being a newborn, we find comfort sucking to feeding bottles or mum’s breasts while as an adult, it’s always been a pleasure to discover new delicacies that will give our taste buds a real ecstatic sensation because of bursting flavors in every bite.
Be careful though, if we are continuously looking to appease our cravings without taking health into consideration, you might see yourself in near future suffering from diet related conditions because we are not being mindful as early as we should ever be.
The amazing fact is that experts always strive to look for alternatives and options for a healthier lifestyle. A recent addition to the family is the red radish.
It’s slowly taking the spotlight and gaining interest of health enthusiasts not only because of its capacity to grow year-round but it also offers a lot of benefits one can imagine. Let me share one simple dish that can be made out of this tiny bulb of wonder – Red Radish Salad.
You only need approximately 10 minutes to prepare this delicious snack; so worry no more if you are running late but craving to bring and share the sumptuous meal with your friends.
Ingredients are also easy to prepare – no need for grandiose add-ons in creating this masterpiece salad. Condiments that is regularly available in a household such as: sugar (two teaspoons), ½ serving of sour cream, salt and black pepper are needed to achieve that signature ‘sweet-sour-salty-tingly’ effect that surely will trigger our taste buds.
You also need a lemon – should be juiced; two well-ripen apples, quartered and sliced thinly to add some fresh sweetness; half amount of cucumber (preferably seedless if presentation is a must for you) and at least two tablespoons of chopped fresh dill to add a fresher aroma in to your snack.
Some tips in juicing your lemon: warm it in a pan of water or heat it in the microwave for at least 10 seconds. This method can give you up to 40 percent more juice. After squeezing all the juice out of your citrus, combine it with sugar and sour cream in your preferred bowl.
Once fully mixed, start rolling the apples, cucumber and the red radish in to it until they are evenly coated. Season it with pepper and salt to add flavor and lastly, top it up with freshly chopped dill. Voila, you have created your very own healthy and refreshing snack: Red Radish Salad!
